Getting started

  1. Install Mint Sold Out to Bottom from the Shopify App Store and open it.
  2. Click Choose collections and Add the collections where sold-out products should go to the end. Within a minute the collection's status changes to Sold out last and the activity log says how many products were moved.
  3. Open a collection in the app to see the first 40 products in the order shoppers see by default, with the ones moved to the end marked.

How it works

  • A product goes to the end when none of its variants can be bought (Shopify's own availability). Variants that don't track inventory or keep selling when out of stock count as available.
  • Stock changes arrive from Shopify as webhooks. The app waits until the store has been quiet for about 20 seconds (so a bulk inventory update causes one re-sort, not hundreds) and then re-sorts the affected collections, usually within a minute or two. Collections with many products are re-checked less often: about every 17 minutes at 25,000 products. Every collection is also checked again at least every 6 hours.
  • Only the products that need to move are moved, in batches of 250, and reading a collection follows Shopify's rate limits, so very large collections simply take a little longer. Collections of up to 25,000 products are supported.

Manual and automatic sorts

  • Manually sorted collections keep your order. Rearrange products in Shopify any time; the app notices and keeps your new order, and products it moved to the end return to the place they had when they're back in stock.
  • Collections with an automatic sort (Best selling, Newest, Oldest, Price, A–Z): Shopify only lets apps place products in manually sorted collections, so the app switches the sort to Manual and re-creates your original sort for the available products on every update, reading Shopify's own order for that sort. Best-selling order is refreshed at least every 6 hours. The collection shows "Manual" in Shopify while the app sorts it. Most relevant has no order the app can read later, so it is kept as it was when you added the collection.
  • If you change a collection's sort in Shopify while the app sorts it, the app pauses that collection and leaves your new sort alone. Click Resume to keep sold-out products last with the new sort as the base order.
  • The order applies to the collection's default sort. Shoppers who pick another sort in your theme's sort menu see Shopify's order for that sort.

Restoring and uninstalling

  • Restore and remove on a collection puts back its product order and the sort setting it had before the app. Turning the app off in Settings does this for every collection and shows any hidden products again.
  • Turn the app off before you uninstall it. Shopify removes an app's access the moment it's uninstalled, so the app can't restore anything afterwards. If you reinstall within 48 hours, the app still remembers the original orders: the collections show as paused, and you can restore them exactly or resume.

Pro options

  • All collections: every collection, including new ones, is sorted. Collections you remove are restored and left out.
  • Tag rules: products with an "always last" tag go to the end even when in stock; products with a "never move" tag keep their place even when sold out (and are never hidden). "Never move" wins.
  • Hide sold-out products: sold-out products in the sorted collections are taken off the Online Store sales channel and put back when they can be bought. While hidden, a product's page isn't reachable on your store. Only products the app took off are put back; a product you publish again yourself is left alone.

Plans

  • Free: 3 collections with every sorting feature. Pro ($5.99/month, 7-day free trial): unlimited collections, All collections, tag rules and hiding. Plans are chosen on Shopify's plan page (Plans → Choose a plan) and billed by Shopify.
  • Moving from Pro to Free keeps your first 3 collections sorted and restores the others; hidden products are shown again.

Troubleshooting

  • A collection says Paused: its sort was changed in Shopify (or the app was reinstalled). Resume or restore it from the Collections page.
  • A collection says Needs attention: Shopify refused the changes several times, or the collection has more than 25,000 products. The message on the collection says which; Resume tries again.
  • A product isn't moved: check that none of its variants can be bought (Shopify shows it as Sold out), and that it has no "never move" tag.
